There is an old Eskimo proverb that says summer is The season of
inferior sledding" Those that live along the northern New York border can truly
identify with this. But it is the long winters that give summers its unparalleled
preciousness. In this watercolor painting of an Adirondack chair in a midsummer
setting, there is a sense of rest and relaxation. The open gate in the white picket
fence draws the viewer to the sparkling blue river beyond. It is an afternoon that
will be long remembered, not for what happened, but for what didn't happen.
