.Winter came early this year, by mid-December the St Lawrence Seaway was experiencing difficulties due to excessive ice jamming at the gates of the locks.  While they worked at removing the ice many ships would have to anchor, sometimes for days waiting and hoping to get through the seaway system before the closing just before Christmas.
