What a contrast
to visit the town of Thousand Island Park in the winter. It's like seeing a
ghost by Charles Petterson. You can imagine and hear sounds, colors and
activity of summer superimposed on the blank canvas of winter. Looking
across this open field where several buildings and a grand hotel once stood
before a fire destroyed them, and most of the rest of the town, near the
turn of the century. At the far end of the field on the banks of the St.
Lawrence River stands a regal looking Victorian home known as the "Iron
House". It's metal siding was what saved it from the raging fire and it was
one of the few surviving structures. Reproduced, finally, from a watercolor
painting by Giclee printing.
