I sometimes imagine that when god was making the world, he flung
his paintbrush (as many a zealot watercolorist often do) thereby creating flowers.
One mid summer day a retired friend of mine called me up to come see some spots that
landed in her yard.
The best known of the hybrid lupines originated in England during
the early part of this century. They offer a variety of color range and grow as tall
as three feet. Lupines are finicky and don't last long in the north but they add a
touch of elegance to an informal garden.
Reproduced from a watercolor painting.
