One day while visiting friends at their cottage in the Thousand Islands, I watched a blue heron walking around the backside of their island. My observations of heron in the past led me to believe that towards the end of the day, they would roost in a tree for the night. But this one continued to walk cautiously about until it was too dark to see anymore. Perhaps in search of a tasty nocturnal snack.
Reproduced from an oil painting on hardboard.
