Then I see a movie or documentary filmed in some exotic location I am exhilarated by the dramatic landscape. There is a spiritual quality in seeing the thumb print of the creator on unspoiled nature. But we don’t have to travel half way around the world to see it. It is often much closer than we think. This spot is just a short drive from my in-laws house in Tennessee. It is a small stream on the eastern side of the Cumberland Plateau. The falls has an 80 foot drop into a large deep pool that not in view from this angle. The stream continues meandering among huge boulders and rock formations as it carves its way to the sea.
There is a mystical and tranquil feeling about this place and I visit it often. My wife found an arrow head near the base of the falls and I thought about what it must have been like here when the Native Americans roamed these forests long before the mechanical world of the 19th. And 20th. Century.
Reproduced from an acrylic painting on hardboard by giclee printing. Watch a short time lapse video of this piece on the “ORIGINALS” page.
