“In the bleak midwinter frosty wind made moan’
Earth stood hard as iron, water like stone,
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.”
Christina Rossetti 1830-1894
Under a crystal white blanket the earth hibernates, while above, winter weaves a textural tapestry of browns and neutrals. Lush colors faded like the memories of the distant summer. In her sleep the earth may dream, until awakened by the sun in spring.
Reproduced from an oil painting on canvas.
