Okay, it doesn't go as far as they wanted it to; the Rocky
Mountains got in the way. But, finding the world's mightiest river and the largest supply
of fresh water is nothing to be ashamed of.
I often think what it must have been like for these early
explorers whose names echo the St. Lawrence River and Great Lakes, not knowing what they
might find around the next bend. It would be centuries before the full potential of the
waterway would be developed into the Seaway that would deliver goods and raw materials
into the heart of North America.
