Whenever I'm in a boat on the river or canoeing the Adirondacks, my eye is often drawn to these aquatic flora, floating like gems in a liquid velvet.   The Water Lily, with it's stark poignant beauty, commands attention.  Isolated islands of color, nurtured by quiet waters, in hues of yellow, white and sometimes pink.

Such a graceful delicate flower in contrast to it's unbelievably tenacious parents and dark murky environment.  Painted in watercolor on cold press watercolor board.
