When I am working on a painting, I keep
my ears open hoping to hear a title. What I kept hearing was "the
innkeeper". I guess it's because I can't think of the Ocean House
without thinking of Bud, the innkeeper, whom I have known for many years.
Most of the paintings I do of buildings
are really about the people that live there or once did. I think there
is some kind of energy that connects to a place where someone has been for a
long time.
The Ocean House is located in Maine at
the end of route 131 over looking Port Clyde, a half block from the Monhegan
boat dock. Owned and operated and operated by Bud and Joan Murdock from May
through October.
