When the air is clear
and you look across the ocean to the mainland, the eleven miles doesn't seem
like a great span, but the gulf that separates Monhegan Island from the rest
of the world is immense. The uniqueness of Monhegan is like a flower growing
in a crack in a Manhattan sidewalk and, like that flower, it may go
unnoticed by many. However, artists see with more than their eyes; that is
why over the years so many are drawn to this tiny rock to be reborn in it's
natural rustic beauty.
This view is from Horn
Hill on an Autumn evening when the last of the summer was about to leave.
The island settles in for the night and six months of dreams.
Reproduced from and oil
painting on hardboard by Giclee printing.
