December is a month like no other. The winter solstice brings the shortest days and yet it is also the most festive and decorative of the months. To many the darkness of December can also bring depression perhaps that is why we have much holiday celebration to offset the melancholy bleakness as we prepare for the long harsh days to come. Others take to winter like a polar bear, frolicking in the winter wonderland with sports and activity. I find winter pensive, a time for inter reflection and when I do much of my painting.
This is the view from the upstairs room of our house looking at the intersection of State and Ford Street on a December day about five PM. A heavy wet snow had fallen and was beginning to melt leaving the streets glistening.
Reproduced from an oil painting on hardboard.
