The Great Blue Heron is the largest North American heron with a wingspan of almost six feet. They range from Alaska to South America. And always live near water either salt water or fresh. Its primary food is small fish but will often eat amphibians, reptiles, insects and even small birds. The blue heron’s long legs allow it to wade into deeper water while hunting.
This species build their bulky stick nests in trees close to lakes, rivers or wetlands. The female lays three to six eggs and both parents help feed the chicks.
Reproduced from an acrylic painting on hardboard.
