Looking silently into the seemingly infinite gray mass of winter, ones thoughts often turn esoterically inward. Perhaps most poignantly at twilight when the last diffused rays of light slip without mercy into the shadowy jaws of the earth and a long winter night ensues.
Winter above the43rd parallel is long and cold. Snow will start in October and even a May snow shower is not uncommon. I find it to be a pensive period in which I am able to accomplish much art work, others like the birds flee to a more temperate southern retreats.
Reproduced from an acrylic painting on hardboard.
