Porches have always commanded my attention as an artist. I have painted them in all seasons, from the most elaborate to the most humble. This watercolor is from the “Wicker and Lace” series of 1988. It’s one of the many Victorian cottages found in Thousand Island Park located at the head of Wellesly Island, NY.
The word “late” in the title has a double meaning, it’s both late in the day as observed by the low light and long shadows and late in summer as seen by the burnt sienna leaves of autumn reflecting in the window pane. The flowers added a splash of random organic excitement and contrast against the true to period, dark forest green. Edition is sold out. Some Artist’s proofs may be available.
