Time on Monhegan Island is paradoxical. It seems to stand still, yet at the same time, seems to pass much too quickly. I never seem to be able to stay too long, but the crystal clear memories of blue summer days , like the one in this watercolor painting, etch themselves deeply.
Like so many beautiful things, there is a melancholy that drifts across Monhegan: a longing to be part of, or belong to, an intangible something that has ceased to exist. “But still we beat on like boats against the tide…”
